“California” by Cotton Mather

In our kudzu cathedral
Nothing need be said
The simplicity of love

“California” is one of our first songs inspired by the I Ching, and along with a few others, completed prior to the launch of this project in November 2015. Recorded at The Star Apple Kingdom by RH, Whit Williams, George Reiff and Darin Murphy. Mixed and mastered by Lars Goransson at Sounds Outrageous.

  1. Robert, I’ve been a long time follower of yours ever since that blissful Beatle-rich “My Before And After” struck my ears for the first time somewhere back in the early 90’s. Beatle John being my favorite from the night I first saw them perform on the Sullivan show back in ’64 at the ripe age of 13, your vocals totally struck a chord (I’m sure by now you’re probably sick of the comparisons!). Then seeing you live at the first SXSW that you did with FCR sealed the deal. I’m digging this new project of yours, and will surely spread the word to the RI community through my network of predominately musician friends: a musical reflection on each of the ICHING verses is intriguing and makes sense in this unbelievably insane world we now live in, and I’m hoping my friends both agree and enjoy these songs the way I do when listening to them and reading their accompanying ruminations. God bless artists like you who have the tenacity to continue pursuing their musical dreams in spite of public reactions. Mine is more like an addiction, and I keep it satisfied by listening to music like yours… Keep up the great work and hopefully one day in the not too distant future the entertainment world might catch up to you!
